Arsenal academy graduate Zach Awe has bid farewell to the club after agreeing a move to Southampton. The 19-year-old center-back had been with the Gunners since the tender age of nine, steadily progressing through the ranks and establishing himself as a key player for the under-21s last season.

Awe’s journey with Arsenal saw him achieve an impressive milestone when he made it to the matchday squad for a Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers in February 2022. However, before he could make his senior debut, his Arsenal contract expired during this summer transfer window.

Not one to let opportunities pass him by, Awe swiftly made a decision regarding his future and has now inked a three-year deal with Southampton. Under the guidance of manager Russell Martin, the talented young defender will be vying for a spot in the Saints’ first-team lineup.

The aspiring footballer had previously trained with Arsenal’s first team, and now he eagerly looks forward to testing his skills on the grand stage of the Premier League with the South Coast club.

Taking to social media yesterday, the teenage sensation expressed his gratitude and farewells, stating, “My time at Arsenal has come to an end. I would like to thank the players and staff that have supported me throughout my journey at Arsenal. During my 10 years at the club, I have learned so much about myself as a player and a person. However, I feel that it is my time to move on, and I am excited about the journey ahead.”

As Arsenal nurtured Awe through the Hale End academy, the club are due for compensation for his development, and his transfer to Southampton is expected to be finalized in the coming week.

The towering 6ft 4in defender showcased his potential last season, making an impressive 35 appearances for Arsenal’s under-21 team. He also featured in 27 matches across the Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy, further validating his capabilities.

Southampton, aiming for an immediate return to the Premier League after their relegation last season, have been drawn to the talents of Zach Awe. While the young defender is set to join their under-21 ranks initially, it is anticipated that he will eventually make appearances for their senior squad, and he is determined to make a positive impact.
