Arsenal’s hunt for defensive reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window has narrowed down to three prime candidates, with Ajax’s rising star Jorrel Hato emerging as a leading target among them.

With Mikel Arteta eyeing a squad overhaul to establish dominance, Arsenal anticipate significant player movements at the Emirates Stadium this summer. Notable names such as Aaron Ramsdale, Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe, and Reiss Nelson are expected to bid farewell. Additionally, speculation surrounds the futures of Thomas Partey, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Gabriel Jesus, hinting at a significant revamp as Arsenal aims for Premier League and Champions League glory.

While departures seem imminent for some, the Gunners are also actively preparing for incoming deals, with Ajax’s 18-year-old defensive prodigy, Jorrel Hato, occupying a prominent position on their wishlist.

Reports suggest that Arsenal have identified Hato as their top target for the summer, despite being informed of a hefty price tag exceeding €100 million after the youngster penned a contract extension with Ajax.

Despite Arsenal’s keen interest and previous attempts to secure his signature, Ajax remain adamant about retaining Hato, who has impressed with his maturity and consistent performances. Hato’s rapid ascent saw him become a defensive linchpin for Ajax, earning praise for his composed displays on the field.

However, Arsenal’s pursuit of Hato faces significant hurdles, including Ajax’s determination to retain their prized asset until 2028, as confirmed by recent reports. Journalist Suleyman Ozturk highlighted the financial complexities, indicating that Arsenal would need to break the bank to secure the youngster’s services, with no release clause in his contract adding further difficulty to negotiations.

Despite the daunting financial demands, sources suggest an amicable relationship between Arsenal and Ajax, with the London club reportedly encouraging Hato to extend his contract to maintain goodwill.

Alongside Hato, Arsenal also eyes Everton’s Jarrod Braithwate and Nottingham Forest’s Brazilian defender Murillo, with the former valued at £20 million. However, Hato appears as the more feasible target for Arsenal as they aim to bolster their defensive ranks for the future.
