Mikel Arteta is determined to improve his squad this month, despite the financial restrictions the club are currently under. Arsenal spent over £200million on four new signings in the summer, which means they need to sell before they buy in January in order to stay in line with FFP.

However that hasn’t stopped Arsenal from laying down the groundwork on potential new signings in the future, with the Gunners being heavily linked with a move for Ajax youngster Jorrel Hato.

Jorrel Hato is a 17-year-old promising young talent from Ajax who mainly operates as a centre-back, but can play at left-back as well. The defender holds the record as the youngest captain in Ajax’s history after recently taking the armband at the age of 17 during a 2-2 draw with Almere City.

Sam Dean of The Telegraph has provided an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of the Ajax defender. He revealed Jorrel Hato is very much on Arsenal’s radar and a player Mikel Arteta would love to sign.

Sam Dean on Hato: “What I do know for sure is that they like him and they want to get that done if they can. But it isn’t that simple, as ever.”

After Jurrien Timber made the move to Arsenal in the summer, Jorrel Hato expressed admiration for his former teammate’s move to Arsenal and revealed his own aspirations, stating, “It is also my dream to one day make such a transfer. But I realise that I still have a very long way to go.”

As Arsenal seeks to lure the Dutch sensation to North London, the prospect of a lucrative contract could be a deciding factor. Hato is currently on youth terms at Ajax, with his contract set to expire in June 2025. While Ajax are eager to extend his deal, Arsenal may present an offer to tempt the player to the Emirates Stadium very soon.
