It’s no secret Mikel Arteta is desperate to bring in a couple of reinforcements in January to help his side bridge the gap in the Premier League during the second half of the campaign. Arsenal currently sit in fourth place, five points behind league leaders Liverpool.
The Gunners have struggled over the past three games, losing to West Ham United and Fulham followed by another defeat to Liverpool last night. Arsenal’s lack of squad depth is hurting them once again, with Thomas Partey, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Fabio Vieira and Jurrien Timber all currently unavailable.
Mikel Arteta is determined to fix the issue as soon as possible with Arsenal stepping up their interest in Everton midfielder Amadou Onana. The Gunners have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the Belgium after it was revealed the Toffees may have to sell in January due to their current financial situation.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Arsenal are currently in advanced talks with Everton over a deal for Amadou Onana. The player wants the move to happen & the Gunners are set to formally submit an offer for the Belgian soon.

Everton value the Belgian midfielder at around £50million which Arsenal won’t be able to afford unless they make a big sale this month. Onana is only 22-years-old and Premier League proven so it would represent a great bit of business if the Gunners can somehow pull off the deal in January.
Mikel Arteta ideally wants to sign a defender and a midfielder this month, with a new striker expected to be top priority in the summer. Arsenal have also been linked with moves for Joao Palhinha of Fulham as well as Manchester City midfielder, Kalvin Phillips. However it appears Onana is Mikel Arteta’s number one target as of right now.
In defence the Gunners have recently spoken to Fenerbahce over the signing of versatile left-back Ferdi Kadioglu. The North London outfit are also showing serious interest in Ajax youngster, Jorrel Hato.
It’s been confirmed Arsenal do need to sell before they make any new signings this month with Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey the main players attracting interest with just over three weeks of the window to go.
