Arsenal are facing difficulties in their search for a new striker this month due to current financial restrictions. The Gunners spent over £200million in the summer on four new signings which means they can’t afford another big payout if they want to stay in line with FFP.
It’s well known Arsenal have taken interest in many top strikers in Europe over the last few weeks. Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney, Dusan Vlahovic and Dominic Solanke have all been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. However we understand it’s very unlikely the North London outfit will be able to lure one of them away from their current clubs this month.
Arsenal will have to be clever in the market if they want to make a signing or two in January. The club are currently exploring loan deals with/without options to buy, as well as cheaper younger targets they could afford.
One player Arsenal have turned their attention to is a striker you probably haven’t heard of up until now… Bologna FC striker Joshua Zirkzee. The 22-year-old currently plays his football in Italy and has scored seven goals in 19 Serie A appearances so far this season.
We understand the Gunners are now interested in signing the Dutch striker this month as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the second half of the season. Arsenal will be looking for an initial loan deal with an option to buy come the end of the season.
Zirkzee joined Bologna from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022 for a fee of £6million. Before that the young striker enjoyed loan spells at Parma Calcio also in Italy, as well as Anderlecht where he scored 15 goals and recorded 8 assists in one season in Belgium.
The 22-year-old clearly has an eye for goal which Arsenal are lacking right now, however he’s still a very raw talent and will likely need some time to settle in if he is to make the move to North London in January.
