Arsenal will enter the upcoming transfer window to bolster their current squad, particularly in attack, with many names already shortlisted and negotiations underway in some cases.

This quest has led the Gunners to revisit their interest in Marcos Leonardo, who not long ago joined Portuguese side Benfica.

Edu has remained a keen admirer of Marcos Leonardo, whom he first spotted at Santos and has closely monitored his progress at Benfica.

Edu’s familiarity with the Brazilian market, demonstrated by previous successful signings like Marquinhos and Gabriel Martinelli, adds weight to Arsenal’s continued interest in the ‘very fast’ striker.

Since joining Benfica in January, Marcos Leonardo has made a significant impact, showcasing his talent with seven goals in 13 league appearances. Such impressive performances have not gone unnoticed.

Recent trends have seen players swiftly moving from Benfica to bigger clubs, exemplified by Enzo Fernandez’s £105 million transfer to Chelsea just six months after joining Benfica. Marcos Leonardo could follow a similar trajectory.

After displaying promising performances during his time at Santos, the 20-year-old attracted attention from several big clubs around Europe ahead of the winter window. However, he eventually decided to join the Eagles in January.

Currently, Arsenal view Leonardo’s potential as promising and are eager to secure the striker’s signature in the upcoming transfer window.

That said, Arsenal have already started to accelerate their efforts to sign him and have launched a formal proposal worth around £26m. Benfica will now evaluate the offer and decide whether to accept it or not.

While Marcos Leonardo is on Arsenal’s radar, he is not the sole option from the Portuguese league being considered. Viktor Gyokeres has also emerged as a target for the Gunners.
