Arsenal aren’t slowing down this summer with the Gunners having made an enquiry for 20-year-old Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.

According to RMC Sport, several clubs around Europe are said to be interested in the French forward this summer, including Arsenal and Chelsea. The Blues are said to be ahead in the race with a formal offer expected to be made for the player soon.

Chelsea have the plan of signing Elye Wahi and then loaning him out to Strasbourg in France, who the owner of Chelsea, Todd Boehly also has a stake in. However such a move is not said to interest the player at this moment which has lead to Arsenal enquiring about his availability.

Arsenal’s enquiry comes at an interesting time given they are currently trying to decide the future of 22-year-old Folarin Balogun. It appears any move for Wahi will depend on the young American’s future. The Gunners value Balogun at £50million this summer with Inter Milan currently leading the race to sign him.

The 22-year-old wants to leave North London as he wants to be a starting striker next season and that is something Mikel Arteta cannot offer him at Arsenal with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah both at the club. If Arsenal do let Folarin Balogun leave then they could potentially look at signing Montpellier’s Elye Wahi later in the window.

Arsenal may have already been very busy this summer after spending £200million on three new signings, however they don’t look like slowing down as Mikel Arteta admitted there is still a lot of work to be done. The main focus at Arsenal right now is outgoings, however the club haven’t ruled out more signings later in the window with Wahi definitely a player to watch.

Montpellier’s President Laurent Nicollin has already admitted that Elye Wahi loves Arsenal in an interview last month: “His agent talks with 4-5 big clubs, I know them but I won’t tell you. We know he likes Arsenal a lot.”

At 20-years-old Wahi has already played 84 Ligue One matches and scored 32 goals during that time. The young prospect is full of potential and it’s clear why both Arsenal and Chelsea are after him ahead of next season.
