Arsenal have contacted the agent of RB Leipzig defender Benjamin Henrichs over a potential summer transfer, it has been reported.
The Gunners are aiming to continue their summer spending as it has been reported by Kicker that they have held talks with the representatives of German defender Benjamin Henrichs.
It’s no secret that Mikel Arteta has been looking to bolster his defensive options ahead of the 2023/24 campaign and it is believed that RB Leipzig’s Henrichs is now an option the Gunners are looking at.
Arsenal missed out on the Premier League title last season mainly due to a lack of squad depth. William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu picked up long-term injuries in February which lead to Mikel Arteta’s side stumbling and handing the advantage to Manchester City who were faultless in the run-in.
However the Arsenal boss is determined to make sure the same doesn’t happen again next season with the club close to bringing in Ajax defender, Jurriën Timber in a deal worth around £40million, as well as looking at other targets such as Benjamin Henrichs as well.

Benjamin Henrichs spent the past 3 seasons in Germany at Leipzig where he has grown immensely during that time. Last season saw the versatile player operate in a variety of positions from both full back positions to slotting into midfield when called upon. It is however at right back where the 26-year-old is most renowned for and after registering 7 goal contributions last campaign, the interest is seemingly increasing this summer over a potential departure.
There is yet to be a transfer fee attached to the German however it will most certainly take a respectable offer for RB Leipzig to approve of any deal as the Bundesliga club have already lost the likes of Christopher Nkunku and Dominic Szoboszlai to Premier League clubs this summer. Henrichs has also proven to be a pivotal asset after appearing 44 times in a season where Leipzig finished third in the league and are now set for Champions League football next season.
Plettenberg tweeted: “Talks between Arsenal and the player’s management took place. Gunners considering Benjamin Henrichs as a backup target. Arteta, with a very good opinion about the German national. Contract at Leipzig until 2025; important player for coach Marco Rose.”
Another alternative for Arsenal is Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo. Kicker claim that the Gunners are still keen on the Portugal defender, who spent the second half of the most recent campaign on loan at Bayern Munich.
Arsenal’s main focus remains bringing in Declan Rice and Jurriën Timber first, but as per the latest reports it doesn’t look like the Gunners’ business will stop there.
