Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a move for Real Madrid star Ferland Mendy following his impressive performance against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.

The Gunners, gearing up for a big summer overhaul under manager Mikel Arteta, are ready for potential changes in their squad, with several players including Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, and Thomas Partey linked with moves away from the Emirates Stadium.

Amidst the anticipation of substantial spending, Arsenal fans are hopeful that Arteta and sporting director Edu Gaspar can replicate the success of their transfer dealings from last year. With a world-class centre-forward and a midfielder topping their transfer agenda, the Gunners are now linked with Mendy from Real Madrid.

According to reports from L’Equipe, Arsenal are among several top European clubs interested in signing Mendy, who was outstanding against Manchester City in the Champions League.

The report states that Arsenal and Liverpool have made contact with Mendy’s entourage on the topic of a summer move. However, official negotiations are yet to begin.

Mendy, a regular for the French national team and Real Madrid, has a contract with the Spanish giants until 2025. However, with limited progress on contract renewal discussions, speculation arises regarding his potential departure from Los Blancos.

Arsenal could emerge as a potential destination for Mendy, especially with the ongoing concerns Arteta faced in the left-back position this season, exacerbated by Jurrien Timber’s season-long injury.

While Mendy could offer an upgrade over current options like Oleksandr Zinchenko, Arsenal’s abundance of left-backs might suggest that pursuing Mendy is not an immediate priority.

Given the emergence of Timber as a potential candidate for the left-back position in the upcoming campaign, Arsenal may prioritise other areas over signing a new left-back. Players like Jakub Kiwior and Takehiro Tomiyasi also provide cover in that position for the Gunners if necessary.
