The upcoming summer transfer window will largely depend on how Arsenal finish this season. As it stands the Gunners are still in the fight for the Premier League title, although it’s no longer in their hands, as well as looking to make it to their first Champions League semi-final in 15 years.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have already constructed their plans ahead of the summer window. The Gunners want to bring in a new central midfielder to replace Thomas Partey, who is expected to leave the club ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

They also want to sign a winger to provide cover for Bukayo Saka and a defender who can operate in multiple positions across the back line.

Although Jorginho’s current contract comes to an end in June, he is expected to sign a one-year extension. However Thomas Partey’s time in North London appears to be up with the club willing to sell the midfielder this summer for a fee between £25m-£30m.

The Gunners have made Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi their number one target to replace Thomas Partey ahead of next season. The Spaniard currently sits above other targets which includes Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz and Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

Zubimendi, who was once labelled an “incredible” talent by U23 scout Antonio Mango, still has plenty of time left to develop and improve over the years to come, at the age of 25, and could be a long-term signing for Arsenal.

Martin Zubimendi has a release clause in his current contract of £51million which should make it a pretty simple deal for Arsenal to get done, providing they have the finances. However the Gunners won’t be alone in the race with the 25-year-old also being closely watched by Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona.

With Zubimendi potentially coming in ahead of next season, it means Thomas Partey would have to go the other way. The 30-year-old has struggled to keep his place in the starting line-up under Mikel Arteta, following his injury problems earlier this season.

Thomas Partey has only started one Premier League match since August with Jorginho and Declan Rice both above him in the pecking order. The Ghanian is attracting a lot of interest ahead of the summer, with Juventus, Galatasaray and clubs from Saudi Arabia keeping a close eye on the players’ situation.

Regardless of how this season plays out, there’s no doubt the Gunners are in for a busy summer as they once again look to bridge the gap to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
