Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign 21-year-old Boca Juniors midfielder, Ezequiel Fernandez, following difficulties in landing other midfield target this month. The young Argentinian has been tagged the new Enzo Fernandez.

According to El crack Deportivo, Arsenal have joined the likes of Benfica, Inter Milan, Sevilla and English rivals Liverpool in battling for the signature of the versatile front hitman rated at around €15 million.

With 30-year old Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey linked with a move away from the Gunners’, Arteta could sanction a move for Ezequiel Fernandez as he fits short and long term goals.

Ezequiel Fernandez already has 47 senior club appearances and one club trophy under his belt with his loan stay at Tigres last season credited for his significant development.

Ezequiel has constantly drawn comparisons with Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez in terms of his style of play.

Tim Vickery wrote on ESPN in comparison of the Fernandez duo: “Enzo’s career gained momentum with a loan spell, so did Ezequiel’s, who spent last year at Tigre. Both are central midfielders. Ezequiel… is left-footed and bristling with quality.”

Vickery added “Ezequiel might need careful handling. The youngster is still raw and erratic, and after the arrival of new coach Jorge Almiron he has spent much of his time as a second-half substitute.

“But the potential is undeniable, and this year’s Libertadores is an excellent opportunity to cast an eye on the development of a fascinating talent.”

For a player so highly rated in Argentina and beyond, Ezequiel seems to be available for a good price and will be tempted to move with current Boca Juniors manager Jorge Almiron content with playing him from the bench, in recent games.

The race will become clearer in the coming days, but no bid has been made yet by the Gunners’ for the 21-year old.
