Arsenal are set to have their biggest ever summer transfer window ahead of next season with a Leicester City defender reportedly on the Gunners’ watchlist .
According to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are monitoring Leicester City defender Timothy Castagne as they look to sign a back-up right-back in the summer transfer window.
Takehiro Tomiyasu has been cover for Ben White this campaign, however Mikel Arteta wants more depth ahead of a return to the Champions League next season & with Kieran Tierney potentially leaving, a new full-back could be a priority if the Scotsman is to leave North London at the end of the season.
Ben White’s position at right-back is more than secure after the outstanding year he’s had in his new position. However Mikel Arteta is keen to add competition to his squad and Timothy Castagne is one option the Gunners are said to be looking at ahead of next season.
The 27-year-old has featured in 34 games for the Foxes this season, scoring two goals and recording three assists in that time. However it has been an incredibly disappointing season for Leicester. They go into the final handful of fixtures inside the bottom three in the Premier League.
Castagne has made 88 Premier League appearances in total for Leicester and would bring a decent level of experience to a young Arsenal side as they look to make another step up next season.
The Belgian signed for Leicester from Italian side, Atalanta in September 2020 for a fee of £20million. It’s expected he will cost something similar if Arsenal choose to bring him to North London in the summer. However he could cost even less if the Foxes end up getting relegated.
As well as the Leicester City man, Ivan Fresneda of Real Valladolid is another option Arsenal are weighing up to act as cover for Ben White next season.
