It’s been reported Arsenal are interested in signing 19-year old midfielder Romeo Lavia from Southampton, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Belgian has had an impressive start to life in the Premier League after joining Southampton last summer for £14million from Arsenal’s title rivals, Manchester City.
He’s been the star man in a struggling Southampton side this season, who are favourites to get relegated to the Championship, which could mean Romeo Lavia could be available for a cut-price come the upcoming transfer window.
Lavia, who has primarily operated in a deeper midfield role this season, has been a regular starter when fit for Southampton this season, making 19 Premier League appearances & scoring one goal against Arsenal’s London rivals Chelsea. However, the Belgian has missed 7 games this season due to a hamstring problem, suffered in September.
Lavia is known to be defensively astute, whilst he is able to progress play from deeper positions, driving with the ball and turning away from tight situations near his own box.

The 19-year old joined Southampton in the summer of 2022 from Manchester City’s academy, however after just one season with the Saints it’s looking likely he will move on to a bigger club in the summer, with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City & Chelsea are closely monitoring the Belgian.

He signed a five-year deal with Southampton in the summer, which lasts until 2027. His current market value is €25m according to Transfermarkt.
Coming through the Manchester City academy, it looks like the Citizens are the front runners for the players’ signature, especially as they have a €40m buy-back clause set-up in Lavia’s current contract, but that won’t stop Arsenal making an attempt to sign the player this summer.
Fabrizio Romano also said that Arsenal are still interested in signing Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and West Ham’s Declan Rice, with the Gunners expected to make two central midfielder signings before the start of next season.
