In the Sunday edition of Corriere Dello Sport (Italian newspaper), Arsenal and an unnamed Premier League club have been in contact with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s agent, Mateja Kezman about a potential move for the midfielder.
The 27-year-old’s contract is up at the end of next season & talks over a new deal with his current club, Lazio have recently hit a stumbling block, with many top European clubs alert to the situation, including Arsenal.
The Serbian has featured 16 times in Serie A this season, scoring three goals & getting seven assists. He also has two goals in the Europa League group stages.
At 27-years-old he’s in his prime years as an attacking midfielder and looking at the Arsenal team he could slot into Granit Xhaka’s role quote comfortably if Arsenal see that as a position they’d like to reinforce in come the summer.
Towards the end of last year, Lazio president Claudio Lotito said that he was not interested in selling the Serbian and would instead offer him a new contract: “I will not sell Milinkovic-Savic, I will offer him a renewal. I reiterate, he is now worth £105m, and every month that passes, the price goes up.”
However, Lazio are not in a strong position to demand a high fee a year on due to the player’s contract situation.
Lazio are unlikely to be willing to let the midfielder leave this month, however he could be on the move during the summer market, with only 12 months left on his contract at that point.
Arsenal are bidding to win their first Premier League title since 2004 this season, with the Gunners currently sitting top of the Premier League table, but that isn’t stopping them planning for the summer with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic definitely on the list of players Arsenal are looking at come the end of the season.
