Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has identified Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra as a key target for the summer transfer window. The Spanish boss is said to “really appreciate” Guerra’s talent and is keen to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

Guerra, who has a €100m (£85m) release clause in his contract, is in high demand with Manchester United, Tottenham, Real Madrid, and Barcelona also interested in his services. However, Valencia are willing to negotiate and may accept a bid in the region of €50m (£42m) to €60m (£51m), a price that Arsenal should be able to match.

The Gunners are expected to revamp their midfield in the coming months, with up to three central midfielders potentially leaving the club. Jorginho’s contract expires at the end of June, and Thomas Partey may be allowed to leave for the right price. Mohamed Elneny is also set to be released, having barely featured this season.

Arteta has spoken out about his plans for the transfer market, saying: “We have a few ideas. That is what this team, this club, and our people are demanding – to keep moving forward in a ruthless way because we are not satisfied with where we are.”

Guerra, who has impressed in La Liga this season, would be a welcome addition to Arsenal’s midfield. His creativity and vision would complement the Gunners’ attacking style, and his experience in Spain’s top flight would be invaluable.

Arsenal’s interest in Guerra is a clear indication of their ambition to strengthen their squad and challenge for major honours. With Arteta at the helm, the Gunners are looking to build a team that can compete with the best in the Premier League and Europe.
