It’s been confirmed Arsenal have genuine interest in Chelsea attacker, Kai Havertz with the summer transfer window officially open from today.

According Matt Law of The Telegraph and now many other reliable journalists, the Gunners hold a genuine interest in signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea this summer. The German international does not want to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge and therefore could be allowed to leave this summer, if his valuation is met.

Kai Havertz current deal at Chelsea expires at the end of next season with many clubs around Europe keeping a close eye on the situation, one club being Arsenal.

Chelsea are in a difficult spot, a similar spot to which Arsenal found themselves in at the beginning of Mikel Arteta’s reign in North London. The Blues carry a wage budget on the same level as Manchester City however the difference is there will be no European football at Stamford Bridge next season after finishing 12th in the Premier League.

Chelsea have a bloated squad with an incredibly high wage budget after Todd Boehly spent over £600m in his first season as the owner of the club. The Blues reportedly need to recoup a significant amount of money in player sales this summer to cover some of the recent spending and avoid running afoul of Financial Fair Play. That means a number of big names, like Havertz, could be on the move this summer.

Clubs around Europe know Chelsea need to sell some big players and therefore they could be willing to accept lower fees than usual in order to get players out the door as quick as possible, which can only be good news for Arsenal.

Chelsea signed the German for £72million back in 2020 but the club probably won’t be able come close to recouping that number. They’re negotiating from a far weaker position on a player who doesn’t want to be at Stamford Bridge.

We suspect he will be sold for a fee in the region of £45million this summer.
