Arsenal young goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo is close to finalising a move away from North London this summer, as per Kaya Kaynak of Football London.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a very successful 2022/23 campaign. Okonkwo went on loan to League Two side Crewe Alexandra for the first half of last season where he kept nine clean sheets in 23 league appearances. Arsenal made the decision that they wanted to test his abilities in a more difficult league for the second-half of the season so the keeper  joined Austrian side Sturm Graz in January.

Arthur Okonkwo kept four clean sheets in 15 league appearances in the Austrian top flight and he is now looking for a new challenge ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

The 21-year-old is reportedly close to finalising a move away from the Emirates this summer, however it’s currently unclear whether it will be another loan move, or a permanent transfer ahead of next season. That is the reason the young shot stopper has not been included in the squad that has travelled to the States for Arsenal’s pre-season tour.

With Aaron Ramsdale, Matt Turner and Karl Hein all currently ahead of Okonkwo in the pecking order at Arsenal, it’s unlikely the keeper will get many minutes if he is to stay in North London and therefore is looking for a move away so he can continue playing first-team football.

Okonkwo, who has a contract at Arsenal until June 2024, is yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for the club. After his two successful loan spells last season, if he is to leave on a permanent basis this summer then, he’s likely to drive a decent fee for a 21-year-old academy product.
