With 27 hours left until the January window slams shut, Arsenal are still in pursuit for a central midfielder. Although their priority remains Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, they are actively looking at other targets in case they can’t get that deal over the line, with Chelsea’s Jorginho an option.

As per the ever reliable Gunnerblog & The Athletic, Jorginho is one of several names Arsenal are weighing up incase they fail in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo who remains their number one target.

The 31-year-old is entering into the final six months of his Chelsea contract and Arsenal are seeking the opportunity to acquire Jorginho at a discounted price. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal will be keeping tabs on the Italian in case Caicedo deal won’t go through because of Brighton’s reluctance to sell.

So far, Arsenal have submitted two offers for Moises Caicedo, worth £60m and £70m which have both been rejected immediately by Brighton who value the Ecuadorian at around €80m.

Jorginho joined Chelsea for €57m in July 2018 and so far he made 213 appearances for the Blues, winning the Europa League and the Champions League during his time there. He was also a part of the Italian 22-man squad who was crowned European Champions in the Summer of 2022, starting every game in the campaign.

Even with the Italian’s contract up at the end of the season, Chelsea are still looking for a fee of around £15m in order to let the player leave in the final two days of the window.

Apart from Jorginho, Arsenal are also interested in Everton’s midfielder Amadou Onana in case the Caicedo deal falls through.

27 hours remain for Arsenal to get one more player through the door, which they desperately need.
