Arsenal are set to complete the sale of defender, Pablo Mari to Serie A side, Monza for £6.1million after the Italian club avoided relegation this season.
Arsenal included a buy-option in Pablo Mari’s loan deal with Monza at the beginning of the season which would see the players’ move made permanent for £6.1m if the club avoided relegation from Serie A this season, which has now been confirmed.
Monza currently sit 10th in Italy, 17 points above the relegation zone with the Arsenal loanee a regular starter for the Italian club this season.
Monza’s 2-0 win over Spezia on Friday secured their place in the Italian top flight for next season with six fixtures remaining, meaning that Arsenal are now in line to receive a £6m payment ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners initially signed Mari on loan from Brazilian side Flamengo in January 2020 before the deal was made permanent for £6.8m the following summer.
However, Mari struggled to hold down a regular starting place in Arsenal’s team under Mikel Arteta and ended up joining Udinese on loan last January before his move to Monza last summer.
