According to reports, Arsenal are set to place their opening bid for Ligue One talent with the North London club in pole position to sign the player.

Arsenal are determined to get their business done as early as possible this summer in order to give any new signings a full pre-season ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. Edu and the board have already been extremely busy in the transfer market with bids going in for right-back Ivan Fresneda, Brazilian midfielder Matheus Franca and a bid being prepared for number one target this summer, Declan Rice.

Arsenal are only just getting started with this summer window expected to be one of the busiest in the clubs history, which has being further represented by the reports coming out today.

According to Santi Arouna, Arsenal are set to make their first offer for Ligue One striker, Elye Wahi. The Gunners are in pole position to land the young striker this summer.

The 20-year-old has had an outstanding season in France during the 2022/23 campaign. Wahi has made 32 appearances for Montpellier this season, scoring 17 goals and recording 5 assists. The French striker is on 22 goal contributions for the season which puts him level with Arsenal loanee, Folarin Balogun who has scored 20 goals in France for Stade De Reims, as well as recording 2 assists.

Many clubs around Europe are closely watching Elye Wahi this summer with the player expected to leave Montpellier ahead of next season. Arsenal isn’t the only club making moves for the player with AS Monaco also set to place a bid very soon. The French club want around £30million for 20-year-old.

Considering Folarin Balogun has the same amount of goal contributions as Elye Wahi this season and Arsenal want £40million if they are to sell the USA striker this summer, it doesn’t seem like a bad deal.

The last striker Arsenal signed from Montpellier was Olivier Giroud and that deal didn’t work out too badly at all. He might not have been world class but for the price the Gunners paid for him, he definitely returned his price tag and more during his time in North London.

Elye Wahi is definitely a player to keep a close eye on this summer with Arsenal pushing to make the deal happen.
