Reports suggest that Arsenal have initiated talks with the representatives of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes over a potential summer move, possibly securing him for a fee below his release clause.

According to Ben Jacobs for 90min, Arsenal have shown keen interest in securing the services of Bruno Guimaraes this summer, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain also eyeing the talented midfielder. Despite Newcastle’s desire to retain Guimaraes, his £100 million release clause and a verbal agreement permitting discussions with Champions League clubs have opened the door for potential negotiations.

The agreement also stipulates that Newcastle will entertain offers exceeding £80 million, signalling their willingness to engage in transfer talks even if the final bid falls short of the release clause.

These developments follow David Ornstein’s revelation last week affirming Arsenal’s admiration for Guimaraes as a player and a prospective signing. The Gunners’ interest in Guimaraes dates back to before his tenure at Newcastle United, with reports from 2022 suggesting that Arsenal held a favourable view of the midfielder, although they pursued other targets at the time.

Manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly in search of a new central midfielder to address issues within the squad, particularly concerning the fitness of Thomas Partey. While players such as Douglas Luiz, Amadou Onana, and Martin Zubimendi have been linked with Arsenal, Guimaraes has emerged as a compelling option due to his versatility as a deep-lying playmaker and box-to-box midfielder.

Guimaraes’ impressive performances in the Premier League since joining Newcastle underline his potential as a valuable addition to Arsenal’s midfield, offering immediate impact and tactical flexibility. Despite initial scouting efforts dating back to his time at Club Atletico Paranaense in January 2020, work permit issues hindered a potential move at the time.

Aligned with Arteta’s vision, Guimaraes’ technical prowess, passing range, and tactical acumen make him an ideal fit for Arsenal’s midfield setup, potentially complementing players like Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.
