The summer transfer market is heating up, with Arsenal and north London rival Tottenham Hotspur emerging as potential suitors for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, who could command a fee in the region of £45 million.

The talented Belgian international has caught the eye during his stint at Goodison Park, attracting interest from top clubs. According to CaughtOffside, both Arsenal and Spurs have placed Onana high on their transfer wish lists. Additionally, Barcelona and Newcastle United are also rumoured to be monitoring the situation closely as they vie for his signature.

Onana’s name had previously surfaced on Arsenal’s radar during the January transfer window, although talks failed to materialise. The Gunners had explored various midfield options, including Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, but Onana remains a priority target.

Tottenham’s interest in Onana coincides with speculation surrounding the future of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who appears increasingly likely to depart this summer. Atletico Madrid have maintained a long-standing interest in the Danish midfielder, with Serie A giants AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli also in the mix for his services.

Sources indicate that Tottenham could be willing to part ways with Hojbjerg for a fee around £20 million, potentially freeing up funds to pursue Onana. The 22-year-old midfielder would undoubtedly strengthen Ange Postecoglou’s midfield, offering an upgrade to Spurs’ squad.

With Hojbjerg’s contract running until 2025, Tottenham may opt to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free in the future. However, Everton may prefer to offload Onana abroad, raising the possibility of Barcelona intensifying their pursuit.

Barcelona’s Financial Fair Play constraints could limit their spending power this summer, giving an advantage to clubs like Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle United in the race for Onana’s signature. As the transfer window unfolds, all eyes will be on Everton and Onana’s next destination.
