After battling it out on the pitch in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are set to go head-to-head off the pitch this summer.

The two clubs are both looking to reinforce in midfield come the end of the season. With both Jorginho and Thomas Partey’s futures uncertain, a new midfielder to partner Declan Rice is a priority for Mikel Arteta ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Thomas Partey has struggled with consistent game time this season due to continued injury problems. The 30-year-old has only started one Premier League match since August with Jorginho and Declan Rice both above him in the pecking order.

The Ghanian is attracting a lot of interest ahead of the summer, with Juventus, Galatasaray and clubs from Saudi Arabia keeping a close eye on the players’ situation.

Although Jorginho has been a more regular starter under Mikel Arteta this season, his contract comes to an end in June and a new deal is currently not on the table. However regardless of the Italian’s future, Mikel Arteta wants to sign a central midfield as a priority this summer.

The club are long-term admirers of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong and according to reports, Bayern Munich are also monitoring the player ahead of the summer.

Frenkie De Jong - Arsenal

Barcelona are open to selling De Jong as the Spanish giants need to raise funds ahead of next season. The 26-year-old is said to be valued at around £60million.

Frenkie de Jong, who made a name for himself during the 2018-19 season with Ajax’s impressive Champions League run, sealed a £73million deal with Barcelona. Having made over 200 appearances for the Catalan giants, De Jong’s potential move to Arsenal is gaining attention, especially considering his words about the North London outfit in the past.

In 2019, Frenkie De Jong hinted at his admiration for the Gunners, expressing his desire to follow the “Marc Overmars route.”

De Jong: “I actually thought Arsenal was pretty beautiful in the past. In my mind, I have had the following list for a long time: Ajax-Arsenal-Barcelona, call it the Marc Overmars route. But yes, if you can go directly to Barcelona, then you are also right where you want to be. Faster than you ever dared to dream.”

With a midfielder Arsenal’s top priority this summer, the club are expected to step up their interest in the Barcelona midfielder. However he’s not the only player the club are monitoring, with Martin Zubimendi also being heavily scouted to potentially partner Declan Rice next season.
