Reports suggest that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are considering selling Xavi Simons this summer, sparking interest from both Arsenal and Barcelona in securing the talented midfielder’s services.

The 21-year-old, who initially emerged from Barcelona’s esteemed academy before moving to PSG in 2019, was subsequently sold by the French giants to PSV Eindhoven in 2022. However, PSG exercised a buy-back clause following a stellar season in the Eredivisie, only to loan him out to RB Leipzig immediately after reacquiring him.

Simons has continued to impress during his loan spell at Leipzig, tallying seven goals and 11 assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances, along with notable contributions in the Champions League. His performances have caught the attention of clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.

Despite PSG’s initial intention for Simons to return to bolster their squad following Kylian Mbappe’s departure, the French champions are reportedly open to offers for the midfielder. Barcelona, in particular, view the former academy product as an ideal addition, although they face financial constraints due to La Liga’s strict regulations.

Barcelona’s pursuit of Simons hinges on their ability to offload another player first, potentially giving Arsenal and Bayern Munich an advantage in the race for his signature. Both clubs are reportedly capable of meeting PSG’s asking price, which is rumoured to be around €60 million (£51.6m).

While Barcelona may struggle to match PSG’s valuation, they hold an advantage in Simons’ preference to return to Camp Nou. However, the Dutch midfielder is eager to have his future resolved before the upcoming Euros, potentially accelerating the transfer process.

Simons’ versatility as an attacking central midfielder, coupled with his ability to operate on the flanks, could offer valuable cover and competition for Arsenal. Manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on bolstering his squad with a new right winger to support Bukayo Saka and provide backup for captain Martin Odegaard.
