Arsenal are reportedly engaged in discussions with AC Milan regarding a possible January departure for defender Jakub Kiwior. The Serie A giants are eager to secure the services of the 23-year-old Polish international, who joined Arsenal from Spezia last January for a fee of approximately £21 million.

Despite Kiwior’s familiarity with the Italian league, having previously played with Spezia, he has struggled to secure regular playing time at Arsenal. The versatile defender has started only two Premier League matches this season, both in the less preferred left-back position.

Mikel Arteta’s preferred center-back pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, along with the presence of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu, has limited Kiwior’s opportunities.

According to reports from Calcio Mercato, AC Milan are keen to bolster their defensive options in the January transfer window, with Kiwior identified as their top target. The Serie A outfit are reportedly intensively working on a potential loan deal with an option to buy.

While Arsenal have been resistant to parting ways with Kiwior, Milan are expected to persist in negotiations to secure the talented defender. Milan currently sits third in Serie A, and the potential addition of Kiwior could enhance their defensive depth as they aim to close the gap on league leaders Inter.

Kiwior spent 18 months in Italy with Spezia, amassing 43 appearances across all competitions. Despite limited playing time at Arsenal, he still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, with an option for a further 12-month extension.

As Arsenal faces a hectic schedule in the coming weeks, including potential minutes for Jakub Kiwior, uncertainty looms over the fitness of Takehiro Tomiyasu, who limped off during the recent victory over Wolves.

Arteta expressed uncertainty about the extent of Tomiyasu’s injury, stating, “They (medical team) have to check him now… Let’s assess how he is.” The situation adds an element of urgency for Arsenal to carefully consider any potential departure of defensive assets in the upcoming transfer window.
