Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian was expected to leave the Italian champions in January after the social media incident a few months ago between the player and the club. But the 24-year-old has signed a new contract and has quietened any rumours of his departure in January.
Osimhen’s recent deal secures his stay at Napoli until 2026 and notably includes a staggering €130 million release clause, as the club values him as a prized asset.
The 24-year-old was instrumental in Napoli’s triumph in the Scudetto last season, scoring an impressive 26 goals and won the Italian Player of the Year award. Additionally, his stellar performances earned him the 2023 African Player of the Year award, surpassing formidable competitors such as Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah and Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi.
Addressing Osimhen’s future, his agent, Calenda, expressed contentment with the player’s current situation in Naples and says his client is committed to helping Napoli win more trophies this season.
Speaking to Corriere dello Sport via Football Italia, Calenda remarked, “Victor is doing very well in Naples and wants to take the team as high as possible. He has always said it and backed it up on the pitch. We just closed a historic deal in the history of Italian football. Let’s enjoy it,”
Despite alluring offers from top-tier clubs, the agent reiterated Osimhen’s desire to remain in Naples, shedding light on their proactive approach towards securing the renewal.
“I represent Victor and I want what’s best for him. We’ve both wanted a renewal since the summer. Last summer, plenty of offers arrived, some monstrous ones, but De Laurentiis wanted to keep Victor and we made ourselves available. If we wanted to leave, we would have said so. Instead, we worked, a lot, to get the renewal done. Next summer it will be the same,” Calenda affirmed.
Although Victor Osimhen has struggled with injuries, limiting his appearances this season, his impact remains evident with seven goals and two assists in eleven Serie A starts for Napoli.
