Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has expressed his opinion on who he thinks will lift the Premier League trophy come the end of the season.
The Gunners currently lead the Premier League by eight points heading into the return from the international break. City can close the gap to five points with a win over Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime, before Mikel Arteta’s men host Leeds in a 3pm kick-off.
Arsenal are aiming to win their first league title for 19 years, last winning it in 2003/04. However Mikel Arteta’s side still have to travel to the Etihad in a title decider as well as trips of Anfield & St James’ Park still to come. Although Rooney wants Arsenal to end their long drought without a title, he believes Arteta’s side will buckle under the pressure.
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has expressed doubts about Arsenal’s ability to handle the pressure of the run-in as he tipped Manchester City to win the title, although he says he would like Arsenal to win it if he had the choice.

Wayne Rooney on the Premier League title race:
“I think it’s going to be intriguing because Arsenal have not been in this position for a long time and it can be a lot of pressure that goes with that.
Certainly when you start getting into the last seven or eight games of the season that’s when the pressure starts. I’m really interested to see if they can sustain what they’ve been doing all season.
I think Manchester City will be there. They’ve won the league the last few years, they’ve won titles, they have a very experienced coach in winning titles in Guardiola so I’m intrigued to see if Arsenal hold out or if City can use their experience in previous years and nick the title off them.”
Wayne Rooney went on to say who he thinks will lift the Premier League trophy this season, as well as who he wants to win it…
“I think City will pip them to it. I think United are almost out of it now – not fully – but almost. If you’re asking me who I want to win it between Arsenal and City, then I hope Arsenal do win it.”
