William Saliba has been one of Arsenal’s best performers this season, emphasised by the drop off in recent performances since the Frenchman got injured over a month ago.
William Saliba has played 27 league games for the Gunners after returning from his loan spell in France at the beginning of the season. He’s scored two goals & got one assist so far this campaign.
It’s unclear if the Frenchman will play again for Arsenal this season. He hasn’t featured for the Gunners since he came off in Arsenal’s Europa League game against Sporting on the 16th March and according to Mikel Arteta, the 22-year-old isn’t making progress as they hoped.
However, Arteta refused to rule the Frenchman out for the season, by saying…
“We are not there yet today, because we’re always hopeful and players are pushing to play. If that’s the case at some stage we’ll announce it. But hopefully that’s not the case.
There is not a lot of progress. He’s feeling better every day but he’s not been able still to have any activity around the first team so we don’t expect him to be with us at Newcastle.”

However the news on Saliba’s contract situation is a lot more positive. Mikel Arteta has said it’s just a matter of time until William Saliba puts pen to paper on his new Arsenal deal.
Mikel Arteta on William Saliba and his contract situation:
“We want to keep our best talent. Especially the players that deserve some recognition. I think he has been incredible since he came back from his loan period and we want to reward him, that is for sure. We will find the right moment to do that.
Obviously technical director, Edu and the board are on top of every negotiation regarding new contracts and now we are doing everything we possibly can to do that in the right moment at the right time.
The communication and the relationship is super. It is about timing, I think. Nothing else.”
