Ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated north London derby against Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has provided positive updates on the fitness of Pedro Porro and Richarlison, indicating their availability for the crucial clash.

Porro, who suffered a hamstring issue during Tottenham’s recent defeat to Newcastle United on April 13, is set to return to action after completing his recovery process. The Spanish full-back has been a mainstay in the Spurs lineup throughout the season and is expected to feature prominently in Sunday’s starting XI as Tottenham aims to disrupt Arsenal’s title aspirations.

Similarly, Richarlison, who has been sidelined since Tottenham’s draw against West Ham earlier this month, has fully regained his fitness during the two-week break between fixtures. Postecoglou confirmed both players’ availability during a press conference on Friday, offering a boost to Tottenham’s squad depth ahead of the crucial encounter with Mikel Arteta’s side.

However, Tottenham will be without Destiny Udogie for the remainder of the season due to a quadriceps injury that required surgery. Additionally, midfielder Oliver Skipp will miss the derby clash after sustaining a minor knock in training.

“Pedro and Richy both trained all week so are both available,” he said. “It’s disappointing for Destiny and ourselves, he has been a big part of a year. It was an unfortunate incident in training but has had the operation and it has gone well. We’ll miss him.

“Skippy picked up a small knock in training as well so we will miss him this weekend as well.”

Reflecting on the significance of the north London derby, Postecoglou emphasised the importance of securing a positive result at home against their arch-rivals. With Tottenham still in contention for Champions League qualification, the match holds added significance as they seek to consolidate their position in the top four.

Despite acknowledging the challenges posed by Arsenal’s strong form and league position, Postecoglou highlighted the derby as an opportunity for Tottenham to benchmark their progress against top-tier opposition.

“We understand the importance of the game and understand the importance of being at home in these kind of games to not let our biggest rival win in the biggest derby for us,” the Tottenham boss said.

“We understand the consequences of that but ultimately it is about us trying to measure ourselves against the teams we want to be challenging on a more consistent basis. It’s a great opportunity to be doing that on Sunday.”
