Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller has attributed his team’s recent surge in form to their win over Arsenal in the Champions League, particularly highlighting the stellar performance of teammate Konrad Laimer against Martin Odegaard.

After a disappointing domestic season that saw Bayern relinquish their Bundesliga crown to Bayer Leverkusen, the Bavarian giants find themselves on the cusp of a Champions League final berth. This comes on the heels of a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Real Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final clash on Tuesday.

The momentum for Bayern began with their victory over Premier League leaders Arsenal in the previous round. Despite grappling with a slew of injuries, Bayern emerged victorious with a 3-2 aggregate scoreline, with Joshua Kimmich’s decisive goal securing their passage to the next round.

In the second leg against Arsenal, Laimer’s masterful display in midfield, particularly in nullifying Odegaard’s influence, earned plaudits from fans and pundits alike. Manager Thomas Tuchel commended Laimer for his role in stifling Arsenal’s captain, emphasizing his contribution to the team’s defensive solidity.

Speaking to CBS Sports on Tuesday, Muller pointed to the psychological boost derived from their victories, singling out the tenacity displayed by Laimer in his battle against Odegaard.

Muller believes that these wins instilled a newfound belief and aggressiveness within the team, despite acknowledging that they are still striving for perfection on the pitch.

“The games and the win over Arsenal gave us a little bit of self-confidence.

“Not the team spirit where you go out and drink a beer together but it gave us this belief, this kind of… this Konni Laimer feeling when he is hunting Odegaard like a dog, maybe you know this story.

“This winning feeling, it gave us a little bit more belief in ourselves to be a bit more aggressive in the last few weeks. We’re in a good mood, we are not playing perfect but we are playing better.”
