Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry has some words for his former club who are fighting to win their first league title since the Frenchman helped the Gunners lift the trophy in 2003/04.

Arsenal have stumbled in recent weeks after dropping points in their last two games away at Anfield against Liverpool & more recently against West Ham at the London Stadium.

The Gunners have seen the gap at the top of the Premier League table cut from eight points to four points in recent weeks, however Manchester City do have a game in hand on Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal face Southampton this week before the title deciding clash at the Etihad stadium the following Wednesday and Thierry Henry has given his former side some advice ahead of the huge game that awaits them…

Thierry Henry tells this young Arsenal side that they need to control the emotional side of the game, if they can do that he believes they can get a result at the Etihad next week.

“The last game against West Ham at home didn’t reassure me. From Arsenal’s point of view, since the beginning of the season, I have been saying you don’t win a title on emotions.

You can win a cup, the Champions League, maybe even the World Cup. But across 38 games you can’t be too emotional about it, and recently we’ve been too emotional.

You can feel the emotion coming, but don’t be emotional. There’s a difference. Stay calm. We are still ahead of City, but I am saying they need to get rid of the emotional part of the game and concentrate on what they have to do.”

The Arsenal legend compares Arsenal to Manchester City in the title race and goes onto say how it’s still in the Gunners’ hands so they need to go and grab it.

“We are still ahead. City still have to win their games and beat us. It’s still there in front of Arsenal. But for me, get rid of the emotional part of the game. When you watch City, they look composed whatever the result.

I know we are talking about the crème de la crème, but when you look at Arsenal, sometimes they lose control of the game. The point is, we are still ahead. So if I was in that dressing room I’d be saying it’s right there, just go and grab it.

I have hope Arsenal can do it, but they need to stay calm. You can feel it, don’t become it.”
