Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has expressed his admiration for the stellar performance of Gabriel Jesus following the Gunners’ dominant 6-0 victory against RC Lens in the Champions League group stage clash on Wednesday night.

The win confirmed Arsenal’s spot in the knockout rounds, with Jesus contributing significantly with a goal and an outstanding display on the field.

Jesus showcased his prowess by finding the net as Arsenal secured a commanding lead, scoring the second goal in the 21st minute, complementing Kai Havertz’s opener. The Brazilian forward’s composed finish was a key moment in the match, leading to an eventual rout with goals from Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Jorginho sealing the emphatic win.

Henry joined the chorus of praise for Jesus during his post-match analysis on CBS Sports. He highlighted Jesus’s contributions, especially his goal against Lens, reminiscing about a similar play against Manchester United.

Henry said, “Gabriel Jesus is a very important player for us. I just love this [Jesus’ feint before scoring]. He did it against Manchester United, I don’t know if you remember on the break. Everyone thought he was going to shoot there. Watch how he does it. Oops, chops and goes back. Gabriel Jesus is a very important player for us.”

While initially skeptical about Jesus’s goal-scoring abilities, Henry acknowledged the Brazilian’s impact on the team. Despite doubts in the past regarding Jesus’s potential as a 25-30 goals-a-season striker, Henry expressed optimism that the forward could surpass the 20-goal mark this season.

“Jesus is a guy who can put more pressure; is he going to be a guy that’s going to score 25-30 goals? No. But what he does is contagious. Then you have the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, who can do wonders.”

Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City last summer, and has faced scrutiny after a moderate goal-scoring record in his debut season at the Emirates, registering only 11 goals across all competitions. However, the 26-year-old has shown promise this season, already netting five goals, with four of them coming in the Champions League.
