Arsenal got a much needed victory against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Mikel Arteta’s side went into the match having lost their last three games in all competitions. However the break in Dubai looks to have done Arsenal good as they recorded their biggest win of the season so far.

Gabriel scored two goals from two set-pieces in the first-half which put the Gunners on their way to a comfortable victory. One from Leandro Trossard and a brace late on from Gabriel Martinelli sealed the three points for Mikel Arteta’s side which puts them back in the race for the Premier League title.

Although Gabriel Martinelli hasn’t been in the greatest form so far this season, it was still a surprise to many Arsenal fans that Leandro Trossard was chosen ahead of the Brazilian to start the match.

Gabriel Martinelli has failed to replicate his goal-scoring form from last season. Before Saturday’s match the 22-year-old had only scored two goals in the Premier League. However following his brace on the weekend, he ended up doubling his goal tally in just one match.

Mikel Arteta revealed after the match that Martinelli wasn’t actually dropped for tactical reasons like many thought. The Brazilian had been suffering with a minor injury in the days leading up to the game at the Emirates Stadium and that was the reason he started the match on the bench.

Mikel Arteta on Gabriel Martinelli: “I think that is going to make him really good. Sometimes when you are in that period, and he had a little issue in the last few days in training so he wasn’t fully, fully fit, that changes momentum, it changes perception, it re-energises you. It’s everything.”

The Brazilian winger is expected to start Arsenal’s next game against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night as the Gunners look to build momentum ahead of the huge clash against Liverpool the following weekend.
