A few days ago, the news came out that Manchester City have been charged with multiple Financial Fair Play breaches by the Premier League. The investigation has been going for four years and finally concluded on Monday with the result being Manchester City has been found guilty of multiple regulation breaches.
It is believed that in the period from 2009 to 2018, the Citizens submitted false reports due to finances which gave them significant advantage over other Premier League teams.
The Manchester club released a statement saying they were extremely surprised by the news and that they are hopeful it will be resolved quickly with the matter being put to rest once and for all.
Arsenal and Manchester City are currently going head-to-head for the Premier League title this season. The independent commission leader for the case mentioned above is a man named Murray Rosen. It will all be completely irrelevant if Murray Rosen wasn’t a passionate Arsenal fan and a member of the club.
The jokes have already started that Manchester City have no escape now or that Arteta, Jesus and Zinchenko snitched on their former club to give them a better chance of lifting the trophy at the end of the season. However I’m not sure Arsenal need any extra help anyway…
The court still haven’t given their verdict on this, but it probably isn’t something that they will be concerned with. Rosen is a professional and under no circumstances will he let his favorite club influence the decision in such a delicate investigation. I am sure that the decision will be made correctly, no matter the leader of the commission.
Manchester City could face point deduction or even exclusion from the Premier League if found guilty. The situation will be looked into deeply over the next couple of weeks and it will be of massive interest to Manchester City, but also to Arsenal fans.
