Tottenham captain Son Heung-Min has confirmed their readiness to face Arsenal in what could be the biggest North London Derby for a long time.

Arsenal are currently top of the Premier League standing on 77 points, one more than Manchester City who have a game in hand. A win for the Gunners will put more pressure on the champions and set them on the path to their first league title in 20 years.

While Tottenham are fighting for a place in the Champions League next season and are trailing Aston Villa by 6 points, albeit with a game in hand. While Arsenal famously secured the title at White Hart Lane during the Invincibles season of 2003/04, the upcoming clash holds immense significance for Mikel Arteta’s men, who understand the imperative of a victory.

However, the outcome of the title race won’t solely hinge on Sunday’s match, as Tottenham will also face Liverpool on Sunday, May 5, and Manchester City on May 14. Son acknowledges Tottenham’s role in influencing the title race and expresses eagerness to confront some of Europe’s finest teams.

Despite Tottenham’s aspirations, Son believes that Arsenal are now one of the best teams in the world and it will be a good test for a young and inexperienced Tottenham side.

“It will be a good test for our team,” Son said. “We’re very young and we’re still a little bit inexperienced because we’re building a young team with a young team with new experiences.

“Some of them are in their first season in the Premier League. So look, we can test ourselves against one of the biggest teams in Europe and the Premier League. But also in the world.

‌“It’s very important the way we play. Stick to our play, stick to our game. It’s a very, very good test. It’s against one of the best teams in the world so it’s perfect [for us]. You want to always have good competition and you always want to face the best teams in the world.”

Reflecting on Liverpool’s recent defeat to Everton, Son underscores the unpredictable nature of derbies and the potential for rivals to disrupt each other’s title aspirations. With his own impressive record against Arsenal, Son approaches Sunday’s clash with confidence, considering it the biggest game of Tottenham’s season.

‌“It’s a big derby and we know what it means for the team and the club and also for the fans. So we’re going to prepare well and play our style of game.

‌“I’m always the type of guy with full confidence going into the games, believing in myself. Every single game is the same mindset. It doesn’t motivate me even more because it’s Arsenal.

‌“Every single game is big for me and a chance to show how impressive I can be. It’s not important who scores the goals or that I scored six goals previously in this game. I just need to be ready for the biggest game of the season.”
