Arsenal won their fifth Premier League game in a row this weekend after Mikel Arteta’s side thrashed relegation threatened Burnley by five goals to nil.

Martin Odegaard opened the scoring in the first five minutes for the Gunners with an excellent finish from outside the box. However Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison believes the Arsenal captain just hasn’t been as good this season.

Odegaard produced two of his best performances of the season in Arsenal’s last two games against West Ham and Burnley. The Norwegian recorded two assists against West Ham, while scoring one and assisting another against Burnley on Saturday.

Despite his recent upturn in form, Clinton Morrison believes he was better last season for the Gunners.

The Sky Sports pundit praised Martin Odegaard, describing him as a special player following his top display at Turf Moor. However Morrison believes the Arsenal captain has actually got worse this season, compared to the 2022/23 campaign.

Clinton Morrison on Arsenal’s recent record in front of goal: “I just think they cause problems, I think they’ve scored the most goals from set-pieces this season.

“Now, they’ve changed it and Declan Rice is the set-piece taker and he delivers good balls.

“They go and attack. They’ve got the likes of Gabriel [Magalhaes], [William] Saliba. You get confidence and that’s what Saka has got at the moment, confidence in his veins.

“You’ve got [Gabriel] Martinelli on one side, you’ve got [Kai] Havertz causing problems and getting goals. You’ve got Odegaard, who is a fantastic player.

“For me, he probably hasn’t hit the heights he did last season but he’s still a special, special player. They’ve got [Gabriel] Jesus to come back, so they’ve got a lot of good attacking options.”

Martin Odegaard scored 15 Premier League goals under Mikel Arteta last season, while recording eight assists. This season the midfielder has currently got five goals and seven assists with 13 games left to play.

Looking at the season as a whole, Arsenal have definitely not played the same fluid football from last season.

However with 21 goals scored over their last five games, the Gunners seem to be finding their best form at just the right moment, with Martin Odegaard at the heart of it.
