Former Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has drawn parallels between a current Arsenal player and his former teammate Aaron Ramsey, suggesting similarities in their playing styles.

Cazorla, who left Arsenal in 2018, remains revered by fans at the Emirates for his captivating performances under Arsene Wenger. Despite now playing for Real Oviedo at the age of 39, Cazorla continues to share his insights on Arsenal and its players.

In a recent interview with the Guardian, Cazorla highlighted a specific observation that has garnered attention. He remarked that Mikel Arteta, the current Arsenal manager, possesses a player in his squad who reminds him of Aaron Ramsey.

Acknowledging Arsenal’s transformation under Arteta’s leadership, Cazorla emphasised the club’s evolution since his departure. He noted the team’s competitive edge, which nearly propelled them to a Premier League title last season and positions them as contenders once again this season.

Cazorla pinpointed summer signing Declan Rice as a player who has caught his eye. Arsenal secured Rice’s services for a club-record fee last year, and the England midfielder has emerged as a key player for the team this term.


Despite Rice’s defensive prowess, Cazorla drew a comparison to Ramsey, highlighting their shared ability to impact the game across various areas of the pitch. Cazorla’s comparison was featured in an interview with The Guardian, where he described Rice as “appearing everywhere.”

“Declan Rice reminds me of Aaron Ramsey, appearing everywhere, a brutal player. Arsenal are clear candidates for the league.”

Reflecting on Ramsey’s tenure at Arsenal, Cazorla praised the Welshman’s versatility and endurance, noting his capacity to contribute both defensively and offensively. Cazorla suggested that Rice could elevate his game further by emulating Ramsey’s knack for making goal-scoring runs into the box.

While acknowledging Rice’s improvements in scoring this season, Cazorla emphasised the potential for further development in this aspect of his game. He expressed confidence that Arteta and the coaching staff at Arsenal would work with Rice to enhance his abilities behind the scenes.
