Arsenal have already began their hunt for transfer opportunities in the summer, and Ivan Toney has been rumoured to join the Gunners for multiple seasons now.

The striker has been on hot form since his game-ban for gambling, as he has bagged three goals in four games for the Bees. Although Mikel Arteta’s side have gone out all guns blazing after the international break, the Gunners struggled to put the ball in the back of the net during the winter period, and fans are still calling for a clinical goalscorer this window.

With rumoured interest from multiple clubs, his current coach, Thomas Frank, has hinted at the idea of him departing this summer:

“There’s a couple of scenarios; he leaves in the summer, he leaves in the winter, or he stays until the end.

“If he’s leaving – whatever, summer, winter or the summer after – I think it will be fantastic seeing him playing for a top club.”

Following Thomas Frank’s response, Toney then joked, ‘“I see that [Frank’s comments] as he doesn’t want me!”

The England international has had numerous disciplinary issues in the past, and when asked what team he plays for by a TikToker in 2022, he replied with, ‘”nowhere exciting”. Just two months later, Toney was forced to apologise to the fans, players and manager for a different moment where he was videoed shouting, “f*** Brentford”, although he claims the video was edited and cut short.

Rio Ferdinand has responded on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE podcast to the potential of Toney joining the north London club:

“Remember, he has never played for a big club. He’s going to go there and he will have to be respectful and know where he is in the pecking order.

“There are some big players in there. Do you think he is going to come with that chat about Mikel Arteta when you have Declan Rice, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus?

Ferdinand responded to claims that the striker “thinks no one can chat to him” by replying: “Then he won’t last long then.”

“I don’t think that is him, but if he goes into the dressing room, a strong dressing room like Arsenal, and thinks, ‘No one can chat to me’ – that’s where the dressing room will be tested. The manager wouldn’t have to say anything. He would be opened up.”

Mikel Arteta has shown in the past that he is firm in his approach to disciplinary issues, and revealed he kept a “catalogue of misdemeanours” when he had issues with former skipper, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The boss even went as far to bench the star striker for Arsenal’s crunch match in the North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur, as he showed players that behaviour would be taken very seriously in his tenure.
