Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has pointed out two fixtures that will be difficult for Arsenal to win before the end of the season.

The Gunners are temporarily in second position behind Manchester City who won their game on Saturday to put pressure on both Arsenal and Liverpool, both scheduled to play on Sunday.

Despite their dominance in the league since the turn of the year with 10 wins in 11 Premier League games, the juries are still out, with many still not convinced they can sustain the momentum with 7 matches remaining.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Ferdinand raised concerns about Arsenal’s challenging run-in compared to rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta’s men face a daunting task ahead, with Ferdinand predicting two defeats in their final seven league matches. He specifically expects losses against Tottenham (2-1) and Manchester United (3-2) at Old Trafford.

While Arsenal boast impressive statistics in the Premier League since the start of 2024, including their current position and point tally, Ferdinand thinks the nature of the title race is unpredictable.

According to Ferdinand’s projections, Manchester City are expected to finish on top with a perfect record in their remaining fixtures, winning the title with 89 points. Arsenal and Liverpool would trail closely behind with 86 points each, with the Gunners securing second place due to their superior goal difference.

Laura Woods, an ardent Arsenal supporter, remains optimistic, predicting victories in all of Arsenal’s remaining league games. However, Ferdinand’s cautious outlook suggests that any slip-ups could prove costly for Arsenal’s championship aspirations.

With the title race intensifying, Arsenal must navigate their challenging fixtures with precision to maintain their position at the top and fend off fierce competition from Liverpool and reigning champions Manchester City.

While Ferdinand forecasts gloom for Arsenal, Mikel Arteta remains entirely concentrated on the forthcoming match against Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium. Despite Arsenal playing after both City and Liverpool in the weekend’s final fixture, the Gunners’ manager showed little interest in emphasising its significance.

“We will know the results but we’ll still have our duty to win our game which is the only thing that we can control.

“That’s happened a few times already and it’s going to happen again in the next few weeks, so we’ll just focus on what we can do, what we can control and make sure that we perform like we have to do against a really good side to try to beat them.”
