Arsenal star Kai Havertz has been turning heads with his impressive performances this season, drawing comparisons to former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino.

Havertz grabbed an excellent performance and assist against Manchester United last Sunday, taking the Gunners back to the top of the Premier League and rekindling their hope of clinching their first Premier League title since 2004.

Gary Neville, a Manchester United legend, has praised Havertz’s selfless contributions to the Gunners’ title charge, likening his style of play and role to that of Firmino in Liverpool’s success. “Havertz is doing a similar thing to what Firmino did at Liverpool,” Neville explained on his podcast. “He drops in, links the play, provides a goal threat, but is subservient to the team. He’ll do whatever the team needs in a game.”

Havertz’s growth into a key player has coincided with Arsenal’s rise to the top of the Premier League. Despite a challenging start, he has flourished in a similar role to Firmino, scoring eight goals and providing six assists since moving up front.

“I used to think Firmino was a wonderful player for Liverpool,” Neville recalled. “Mane and Salah got the plaudits, but I always mentioned Firmino for the way he played, connecting midfield to attack. Havertz is doing something similar.”

Firmino, who left Liverpool last summer after eight successful years, was renowned for his work rate and ability to bring others into play. Havertz, too, has flourished in a similar role, becoming an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s setup.

“Havertz has become a really important figure,” Neville said. “I used to always mention Firmino because of the way he played, and Havertz is doing something similar. He’s providing a goal threat, but he’s also linking midfield to attack.”

As Arsenal bid to pip Manchester City to the title, Havertz’s form will be crucial. The German forward, who has netted 12 goals and provided seven assists this season, will be hoping to continue his impressive run.

“I’ll be Tottenham’s biggest fan,” Havertz said with a smile, referring to Spurs’ upcoming match against Manchester City.
