Bukayo Saka has been arguably been Arsenal’s best player this season with 10 goals & 9 assists in 26 Premier League appearances. The 21-year-old has started every league match for the Gunners this campaign. He’s been outstanding and rightfully has had many plaudits, with the most recent being former Manchester City player, Micah Richards.
Micah Richards was asked in an interview with BBC Sport about who he thought was the player of the year so far. He gave his verdicts on multiple players such as Casemiro, Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard, Kaoru Mitoma and of course Bukayo Saka.
For his verdict on Bukayo Saka, he said…
“Saka is just relentless, isn’t he? His numbers are brilliant but his all-round play and his mental strength are just remarkable as well, especially for someone who is only 21.
He is always willing to take big penalties and he is never fazed, whatever the occasion or situation in the game – he steps up in big moments.”
Bukayo Saka has been directly involved in 19 Premier League goals this season, which is his best ever return in a single Premier League campaign.
Micah Richards added…
“Saka is one of the main reasons Arsenal are challenging for the title and, regardless of whether they win it from here, he has just been unbelievable and he seems to just get better and better.
He is a winger but unlike, say Antony at Manchester United, is always involved in the game. As well as influencing games with his goals and assists, he allows his team-mates to flourish. The inverted role he has, where he comes inside, allows Ben White space out wide and their relationship is just incredible.”
Saka’s influence on the squad is very evident. He is a player with a a mentality way beyond his years and this also inspires the rest of the squad. Saka is a very infectious presence and his contribution is lauded not just by pundits but also by his manager, team-mates and a lot of fans.
Even though he wasn’t Micah Richards player of the season so far he certainly is the player of the season to a lot of Arsenal fans.
