Pep Guardiola has hit back at critics who label the dominance of Manchester City in the Premier League as ‘boring,’ asserting that their relentless pursuit of success is far from predictable.

Ahead of their crucial clash with Tottenham, where victory would propel City two points clear at the top and inch them closer to an unprecedented fourth consecutive title, Guardiola brushed off suggestions that City’s success is solely down to financial might.

Despite City’s hefty investments in their squad, Guardiola pointed out that other clubs, including Arsenal, have also splashed significant sums on new talent without achieving the same level of success. He highlighted Arsenal’s acquisition of Declan Rice last summer as evidence of the Gunners’ financial prowess, albeit without translating it into league dominance.

“People say we will win it because we won it in the past but that doesn’t mean it will happen today,” he said. “Otherwise all the teams (who have won it) still would be winning instead of just winning one. We like to prove they are right but we have to do it.

“It’s boring? It’s not. It is so difficult. Before do you know what it was? It was the money. It was the reason why Man United should have won all the titles. All of them. And the second Chelsea, all the titles. And third Arsenal. All the titles.

“They spend much more in the last five years than us net. They should be there but they are not.”

Guardiola dismissed claims that City’s dominance has made the Premier League dull, emphasising the relentless pressure and competition they face from other ambitious clubs. Refuting the notion that City’s success is a foregone conclusion, Guardiola stressed the importance of proving themselves on the pitch each season.

Arsenal are taking the game to Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City team this season in the title race and have succeeded in making them nervous ahead of the final week of the Premier League season.
