Arsenal beat Burnley this weekend, however Paul Merson had one more thing to say on last week’s clash at St James’ Park on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday yesterday.

The Gunners produced the perfect response against Burnley at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday with goals from Leandro Trossard, William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko securing the three points for Mikel Arteta, who was desperate for his side to bounce back following the controversial defeat to Newcastle United last weekend.

Mikel Arteta went on a huge rant after the game on the VAR decision to allow Anthony Gordon’s goal to stand. However Arsenal legend, Paul Merson thought the Arsenal manager should be looking at David Raya rather than making excuses.

Paul Merson on David Raya for Newcastle’s goal: “At the end of the day, his goalkeeper’s sold him up the river. His goalkeeper should catch that every day of the week. You see his positional play, he’s two yards in front of the post.

“Any other day of the week a goalie comes out, catches it, bounces it a few times and throws it to the full-back. It’s just covered over, it’s unbelievable. Gabriel does an air shot but that, you watch his positional player. It’s unbelievable, it wasn’t even a great cross.”

Mikel Arteta has come under criticism this season for replacing Aaron Ramsdale with David Raya, however the Spanish keeper has kept four clean sheets in his first eight Premier League appearances for the Gunners which represents a solid return.

David Raya will be under the spotlight all season after coming in for Aaron Ramsdale, however so far it appears the keeper has dealt with the pressure well, despite his mistake at St James’ Park last weekend.
