In a bid to maintain momentum in the Premier League title race, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has underscored the significance of goal difference to his squad following their impressive 5-0 victory against Burnley at Turf Moor.

The Gunners’ attacking talent was on full display on Saturday, securing a second consecutive big win away from home after their 6-0 triumph over West Ham. With these victories, Arsenal have positioned themselves just two points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Arteta’s emphasis on goal difference came into focus as holders and title rivals Manchester City stumbled to a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at home. Despite being level on points with Arsenal, City’s goal difference stands at +31, trailing behind Arsenal’s +36 and Liverpool’s +35.

Speaking on the importance of goal difference in the title race, Arteta expressed confidence in his team’s hunger and determination to maintain their competitive edge. He stated, “We want more and we know how important the goal difference is to be up there.”

The manager also praised the collective effort of his players, highlighting their positive contributions both on and off the field. “Every player, whether he plays one minute or 30 minutes, the contribution they are willing to give to the team is really positive, so let’s keep doing it,” Arteta affirmed.

The recent victories for Arsenal come in the wake of criticism directed at the team for their celebrations following a 3-1 win over Liverpool earlier in the month. Notably, club captain Martin Odegaard’s gesture of covering his ears after scoring against Burnley raised questions about its intent.

When questioned about Odegaard’s celebration, Mikel Arteta responded, “I don’t know, I didn’t notice that he made that gesture. But he was really happy in the dressing room.” He further praised Odegaard’s performance, emphasising the importance of players being true to themselves.
