Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised the impact of one of his experienced players and says he makes everyone else at the club better. The Gunners recently announced the contract extension of midfielder Jorginho, securing his future at the Emirates Stadium for another year.

The Brazilian-born Italy international, who joined Arsenal from Chelsea in January 2023 for a reported fee of around £12 million, has committed to a one-year extension with the North London club. 

According to reports from The Guardian, Jorginho opted to prolong his stay at Arsenal despite the allure of a potential return to Serie A.

Since his arrival, Jorginho has become a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad, featuring in 51 appearances across all competitions, with 35 of those coming in the current season. His consistent performances on the pitch and positive influence within the team have made him an indispensable asset for the Gunners.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s clash against Manchester United, manager Mikel Arteta expressed his delight at Jorginho’s decision to extend his contract. Arteta praised the midfielder’s contributions, stating his impact on and off the field.

“I think there are no questions about his contribution to a team, the way he feels about his teammates, about the club and the way we play,” said Arteta. “He’s someone who makes everybody better – that’s his main quality.”

Arteta highlighted Jorginho’s hunger for success and his commitment to Arsenal’s cause, citing his positive influence in the dressing room as crucial for the team’s development. With Arsenal’s squad primarily comprised of young talents, Jorginho’s wealth of experience and winning mentality provides valuable guidance and inspiration.

“He’s still hungry, he wants to win, he wants to win with us, he’s happy here and his family is happy here, so for us it was a really easy decision.”
