Arsenal fans were thrilled to see their new signing Kai Havertz in action during the friendly against FC Nurnberg this week.

The German international was introduced as a second-half substitute, as he picked up his first 45 minutes in the famous red and white shirt. Kai Havertz was deployed as the left central midfielder when he came on, similar to where we saw Granit Xhaka play last season. He was accompanied by his former teammate, Jorginho in the double pivot.

It’s going to take time for Kai Havertz to adapt to the way Mikel Arteta wants to play, however for his debut he looked very comfortable in the Arsenal side. The technical ability he has is clear and that’s one of the main reasons why Mikel Arteta was so desperate in bringing him in this summer.

During Mikel Arteta’s post-match interview, he was asked about where he sees Kai Havertz’s best position to be.

The Arsenal boss answered by saying: “We have to see how he adapts, where we see him and to get to know each other, to build relationships – football is about that. Time will tell where he suits best.”

Kai Havertz is a versatile player who can play in midfield or anywhere across the front three. He was deployed regularly as a centre forward for Chelsea last season due to the absence of a natural number nine. However it appears Mikel Arteta will give the German a chance in multiple roles to decide where he suits the Arsenal system best ahead of next season.

We think the most likely position will be where Granit Xhaka featured for the Gunners throughout the 2022/23 campaign.

Kai Havertz was the first signing Arsenal made ahead next season, however he’s set to be joined by Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice who will be on the plane to the U.S for the pre-season tour which begins on Sunday.
