Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has once again confirmed that there have been no discussions about a new contract for him, with just over a year remaining on his current deal.

Arteta signed a new three-year contract in May 2022, running until 2025, but talks over fresh terms are yet to commence as the Spaniard nears the final year of his current deal.

When asked if there had been discussions over a new deal, Arteta bluntly answered: “No. Nothing.”

Rumours emerged earlier this season that Arteta could replace legendary midfielder Xavi as Barcelona manager, when he steps down at the end of the current season, but the Arsenal boss has previously refuted these rumours in the strongest possible terms, saying: “No. That’s totally fake news. I don’t know where it is coming from, it’s totally untrue and I’m very upset about it.

“I could not believe it. It has no sources. You have to be cautious when you write things in the way it was yesterday.”

While talks over a new deal are yet to take place, there are currently no expectations of any issues when discussions do eventually take place, with Arteta keen to remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

Multiple outlets have reported that the 42-year-old is focused solely on ending the current season in the best possible way, as Arsenal chase two major honours, rather than being concerned over his own future.
