Mikel Arteta has provided injury update ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Brentford on Saturday. The Gunners will hope to return from the international break in a better shape than they were against Burnley, with several key players expected to return to the team.

Benjamin White was absent from the squad  for the first time this season against Burnley, while Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus have also been sidelined in the last few matches.

Odegaard last featured in the team against West Ham in the Carabao Cup defeat and has struggled with injuries in recent weeks. The captain was expected to return against Burnley but was ruled out with a concussion.

In his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta provided the latest updates on the fitness of Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Ben White.

On Odegaard, the manager said: “Hopefully he is available. We have another training session today but he has been progressing well. We didn’t know how many days he’d need to be out and in the end it got more delayed than we wanted but we had to protect the player.”

Gabriel Jesus has been out for more than a month now but returned to action for Brazil during the international break and he is expected to be in contention against Brentford.

“He’s available,” Mikel said. “He played 96, 97 minutes in a very competitive match, so we have another session and they had a long flight so I have to see the condition of every single player to make the call on the line-up.”

Ben White has played all of Arsenal’s matches this season but was surprisingly unavailable against Burnley, Arteta is hopeful he will be able to train today.

On White, Mikel added: “Again, hopefully if he is able to train today he will be eligible to play, but it’s a question mark to be resolved in the next few hours.”
