Mikel Arteta looks set to add a former teammate to his coaching staff ahead of next season, in what will come as a massive boost for the club.

Arteta is reportedly very keen to add former teammate Gabriel Heinze to his coaching staff ahead of next season, and the rumours have now been given the seal of approval by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

According to Romano, there is a real possibility of Heinze joining the Gunners, and the decision now reportedly lies with the Argentine, who has a big decision to make in the coming weeks.

Arteta and Heinze were teammates for a year, during the 2001/02 season, at Paris Saint-Germain, and the pair are said to have had a strong relationship.

The news of a possible coaching reunion for the pair comes amid rumours that both Carlos Cuesta and Albert Stuivenberg could both leave the Gunners this summer to pursue managerial roles elsewhere.

Arteta has previously spoken about the possibility of the duo leaving, and insisted that he would not deny them such opportunities, saying: “You cannot stop them. I wouldn’t, no.

“I think everybody needs to feel that there is a path, there is a development plan for everyone.”

It has also been reported by Leandro Alves (ESPN Argentina) that Heinze was recently in England, reportedly to discuss a role at Arsenal with Arteta, which has only added fuel to the rumours.

Further speculation was sparked when Heinze did not take over as manager of Argentine side San Lorenzo, despite reportedly being their first-choice candidate, suggesting that he has his sights set elsewhere.

As well as Heinze, fan favourite Santi Cazorla is also reportedly a target for Arteta’s coaching team this summer, and the Spaniard is also said to be very keen on such a move in the future.
