Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has light-heartedly addressed the recent controversy surrounding his celebratory antics, joking that he was “too scared” to repeat the gesture that drew the ire of former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher.

Odegaard came under scrutiny from Carragher for celebrating Arsenal’s triumphant 3-1 victory over Liverpool last month with club photographer Stuart MacFarlane. Taking over the camera, Odegaard snapped a photo of MacFarlane amidst jubilant fans, prompting Carragher’s quip, “Just get down the tunnel.”

Despite sparking debates about Arsenal’s celebratory style, time seems to have healed any rift between Odegaard and Carragher. Following Arsenal’s dominant 6-0 victory against Sheffield United on Monday, their seventh consecutive Premier League win narrowing the gap with Liverpool to two points, Odegaard engaged in a light-hearted exchange with Carragher during a Sky Sports interview.

Addressing Odegaard, Carragher humorously inquired about the absence of the photographer on the pitch. Odegaard, with a chuckle, admitted, “I was waiting for you to say something. I was too scared to do it today. I went straight in today!”

The camaraderie between Odegaard and Carragher indicates a lighthearted conclusion to their previous banter. For Odegaard, the jovial atmosphere mirrors Arsenal’s stellar performance since the victory against Liverpool, with the Gunners securing three consecutive away wins by significant margins.

“We wanted to keep the momentum going,” Odegaard remarked. “We have had some good games in the league and we wanted to keep it up. We always want to strong, especially when you come to places like this. It can be tricky if you don’t start well. Today we did and we didn’t stop from there.

“Every game is crucial now. You see the quality in this league at the top of the table, it’s a good fight and the quality is there. Every game is important. It’s another important game and another three points we want to get and hopefully we can do that.”
